Frank Smith was dreaming. He had put Joan up in the spare room but now in his dream she was standing by his bed. Dreams are always crazy, of course. Then he woke up and found she was standing by his bed. It was ridiculous.

'This is ridiculous,' he said.

‘What do you want for breakfast.’

'I cook my own breakfast.’

'Not while I'm here.’

This is ridiculous,’ he said again. ‘Do you really want to know?’

'Yes.'

He told her.

Thank you,' she said and climbed into bed beside him. 'What are you doing?’

To hell with the spare room,' she said. 'I'm lonely.'

'Well,’ he said, delighted but trying not to show it. 'Well....'

He felt inadequate but she soon altered that
